present in Kerala, Kanakakunnu Palace is having an important place. This
famous palace is located in the capital city of Kerala, which is our
Thiruvananthapuram or Trivandrum. In general we can say that this
Kanakakunnu Palace is located near the Napier Museum. Actually this
palace was built by Sri Moolam Thirunal. But later Sri Swathi Thirunal
renovated the palace by including certain features like tennis court.

the Royal family of Travancore used this building as their summer

Important features of Kanakakunnu Palace

most important feature of this palace is related to its architectural
structure. Royal furnitures as well as beautiful chandeleires are part
of this palace. Now this palace is protected by the Tourism Department.
Several cultural meets & programs are conducted in this palace. Also
note that the Kanakakunnu Palace located in Trivandrum is considered as
the heritage monument by INTACH (Indian National Trust for Arts &
Cultural Heritage). You must have heard about the
Sooryakanthi Auditorium & the
Nishagandhi Open Air Auditorium.
Remember that both these auditoriums are situated on the Kanakakunnu
Palace compound. Among these, the Sooryakanthi Auditorium is considered
as an important place for exhibitions, cultural programs as well as
trade fairs. But festival of Indian classical dances, cultural as well
as entertainment programs is conducted in the Nishagandhi Open Air
Auditorium. Bharatanatyam, Kuchipudi, Mohiniattom etc are some of the
important Indian classical dances which are performed in the Nishagandhi
Open Air Auditorium. The beautiful meadows & grounds in front of
the Kanakakunnu Palace make it an important attractive place. Another
important point is regarding the food festival which is conducted on the
palace grounds. The 2011 Trivandrum flower show was conducted at the
Kanakakunnu Palace from 6 January 2011- 17 January 2011.

After
reaching Trivandrum by train, flight or bus you can easily reach the
Kanakakunnu Palace. Prepaid taxis or autorickshaws are available for
your easy journey. So you must keep in mind that the nearest airport is
that of Trivandrum International Airport, nearest railway station is
that of Trivandrum Central Railway Station & the nearest bus stand
is that of Trivandrum Central Bus Stand respectively.
