MEENMUTTY WATERFALLS, WAYNAD




General information about Meenmutty waterfall


Meenmutty waterfall is the tallest waterfall in Wayanad with a falling height of 300 metres. This three tier water fall is the second largest waterfall in Kerala. The spectacular waterfall is a real heaven for those who like trekking. Trekking through the green deciduous forest, is a mesmerizing experience. The best time to visit this waterfall is from the months of September to March. It is better to avoid this place during monsoon season. The chances of accidents are very high during the rainy days.


Location and Access


The Meenmutty waterfall is located in Wayanad district, 12 km east of Meppady town. A 2km trekking from the Ooty road in Wayanad will reach you to this spectacular park. This place has a well defined connectivity to other parts. The nearest railway station and airport is situated in Kozhikode, at a distance of 80 km. There are bus services available to Meenmutty from the main cities and towns. There are state owned and private buses connecting Wayanad to other states.


 

The main attraction in Meenmutty.


This place holds many small and large waterfalls. The main waterfalls are the Soochipara waterfall and the Kanthanpara waterfall. The Kanthanpara waterfall is the smallest among the three with a height of only 30 m. The Sentinel waterfall is also a three-tired one and is falling from a height of 200m. In local language it is known by the name Soochipara waterfall. These three waterfalls are the main source of Chaliyar river. Other main attractions are Edakkal caves, The Wayand Heritage Museum and Karapuzha dam.
